Robert Lewandowski is joining Chicago Fire. Read that again. One of the most ruthless finishers of his generation is swapping European nights for Major League Soccer, and he has done it in the middle of a summer window that was already spinning off its axis.
The biggest curveball of the window
This window, open from June 15 to September 1, has produced plenty of noise. Tottenham broke their club-record fee to land Mateus Fernandes from West Ham. Bayern Munich went and signed Ismael Saibari from PSV for around 50 million euros. And yet nothing lands like Lewandowski, still scoring at an elite clip, choosing Chicago. It is the move nobody had on their list.

What Fire fans can expect
Goals, and lots of them. Lewandowski does not need pace to punish defenders, he needs half a yard and a cross, and MLS backlines will learn that fast. Chicago just handed their fans the most bankable finisher in the league. If the supply line holds up, the Fire's playoff push suddenly looks very different.
